Search in MapSource only. To get Windows 7 with a refurbished laptop and I will keep that OS installed on it for those things I cannot do with Linux. Garmin should. If Garmin's Basecamp can't work with Ubuntu, is there another gps device that will work with linux/ubuntu? I have a laptop with Ubuntu OS and I would like to use a gps that is compatible with my laptop that I can share with others who probably will be using Mac or Win OS.
Garmin Connect Community for tracking. BaseCamp will recognize all MapSource products except BlueChart. BaseCamp does not work with serial GPS devices.

Garmin MapSource is only available for Windows-based PC, not Mac. Garmin stopped supporting MapSource with their last update v.16.3 on October 25, 2010, at which time MapSource was replaced with BaseCamp software.
I have two Garmin Zumo 660LM gps devices that were built to be compatible with MapSource software (not BaseCamp). MapSource interfaces with City Navigator North America maps allowing users to create custom routes on a PC that can be transferred to the Zumo 660LM device. MapSource is the only recommended software to be used with Zumo 660LM (not BaseCamp). Zumo 660LM devices are NOT compatible with Garmin's BaseCamp, a fact Garmin has reluctantly confirmed. Since I only have Mac computers, and I would like to use my Garmin Zumo 660LM gps devices, I am looking for a MapSource equivalent to interface with updatable City Navigator North America maps, create custom routes on my Mac, and transfer to the Zumo 660LM device with confidence that the routes are as planned.
